A partial lunar eclipse will be visible in India and Most part of Asia, Australasia, Europe, Africa, and south America on August 17, 2008.











Although only a partial eclipse, this eclipse should be quite significant, as most of the Moon will pass inside the Earth’s umbral shadow at maximum eclipse — the umbral magnitude is 0.812.

Timing of Partial Lunar Eclipse (India)

The eclipse will start at 01.06 a.m. (IST) of 17 August 2008 and continue till 04.15 a.m. (IST). The phenomenon will reach its greatest magnitude around 02.15 am to 03.05 am.

Though the eclipse would be partial, over 80 per cent of the Moon’s diameter would be covered by the darker shadow of the Earth at the time of the eclipse. The next partial lunar eclipse will be on Feb 9, 2009.
